Surrealist "Lunch"
I am so happy that I attended this reading last week! It was extremely, a huge surprise, since I didn't know what to expect. When I finally arrived the first thing I noticed was this nice tour bus parked outside with huge bright red letters that read "POETRY BUS." That's something you don't see very often. So, since I'm so camera crazy, I took a picture of it.
The whole event was nicely done. There was this woman who spontoneously wrote poems on an old fasioned typewriter and then rung a bell, and then another woman would run and rip the poem from the typewriter and deliver it to the readers of the poem.
Sometimes, the woman would would cry, laugh, beg, aplogozie, etc while delivering the poems to the readers. The whole time, the audience was introduced to the wonderful sensation of art being created on the very spot. She even did cartwheels, stretched-out, and even asked for an audience member to sign a poem. It made me realize that art isn't a sophist experience but a communal one. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed the event itself.
The reading featured poems read by Joshua Beckman, Joshua Clover, Gillian Conoley, Valzhyna Mort, Dara Wier, and Matthew Zapruder. It was sponsored by the Menil Collection, Inprint, The Waves Poetry Bus Tour and Gulf Coast.
