"Take me out to the ballgame"

The diamond shaped field stretched out beneath a sea of florescent lights, baseballs fired into the artificial air, pools of tobacco spit settled beneath a pitcher’s cleats: none of it has ever excited me. But apparently this city’s home team has made it to the World Series. There is a thunderous fervor around town. Bars are filled with screaming fans. It's almost savage; the need to be part of a group and then to celebrate that group’s superiority (or luck.) It can create wars in some instances, celebration in others. So once again this city has made national headlines and soon our raucous applause will deafen the keenest ears. . .maybe.
